Professional Development Conference Committee

The PACE Conference and Workshop Committee is a committee of the IEEE-USA Board of Directors. The committee's mission is plan, organize, and facilitate periodic conferences to provide for the professional development of individuals working in technical fields. The conferences offer professional skills training, enhance the exchange of information on professional development issues, and allow participants effective networking opportunities. Sessions provide an atmosphere in which ideas, initiatives, and concepts can be presented and discussed. IEEE-USA also utilizes the conferences as a development tool for members in professional activities leadership positions, and they serve as vehicles for PACE leaders to communicate ideas and recommendations to the IEEE-USA leadership to enhance IEEE-USA programs and operations.

Functions

The functions of the Professional Development Conference Committee outlined in the committee's charter include:

  1. Selecting the IEEE regions in which future annual conferences will be held and the dates on which they will be held at least three years in advance, and moving the conference from region to region in a predetermined sequence, provided that this is the most economically viable option.
  2. Reviewing recommendations from volunteers and staff and selecting a site within the region selected; submitting any proposed multi-year contract with a hotel or other venue to the IEEE-USA Board of Directors Operating Committee for approval.
  3. Determining the goals and theme of the conference, planning the program, and selecting and inviting speakers.
  4. Conducting and managing the program, assisted by IEEE-USA staff.
  5. Evaluating the program by having conference participants complete written questionnaires for individual sessions and for the conference as a whole.
  6. Producing a conference Proceedings in written and/or electronic format and distributing it to conference participants.
