JAWS
(Job Acquisition Workshops)

Topic: Resume Workshop

Program Description: A resume is the first impression an employer has of a potential employee. Successful resume writing skills are essential for the engineering student who is entering into the job market. The proposed workshop will provide students with an environment in which they can receive helpful advice from professionals on how to improve their resumes.

Approach: The students will be required to sign up for a time slot one week before the workshop. Students will be provided free access to photocopying so that they can duplicate their resumes.

The professional will review the student’s resume and provide feedback during a time slot. Refreshments will be provided during the workshop. Dinner will be provided for the professionals after the workshop, at which time they will be able to provide feedback and suggestions to the student officers for future workshops.

Time Frame: The workshop will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., during which time each professional will have eleven 20 minute time slots plus one 20 minute break.

Intended Outcome: The anticipated outcome of this project is that the students will gain the knowledge of, not only how to create a professional-looking resume, but also how to tailor it to best help them get the job they want.
