Venture Summary:
A career plan and goals are important elements to a successful profession and life. Along with that is the necessity for a clean and informative résumé that highlights their skills and knowledge. In addition, a comprehensive portfolio and interviewing skills round out a person’s ability to apply for jobs and promotions. With this in mind, the workshop is geared around those essentials and will use audience interaction, presentations, and audience members’ working with their computers to develop said items.
The workshop will be in two 1-hour parts, with a fifteen minute break between. Students will receive digital copies of resources for their personal computer. The goal of this workshop is to encourage students to plan and be responsible for their careers, as well as to train them to be effective engineers and human beings.

3) Develop a professional portfolio
4) Discuss interviewing skills
5) Promote professional group participation, such as the IEEE
C. Venture Risk
The main risk of the event is the failure to attract enough students to participate in the workshop, though we will advertise in the department beginning a couple of weeks in advance, promoting the practical career skills covered and the participatory nature of the workshop. A special focus will be made to attract some of the underclassmen in the department.
D. Management
Planning of the event will be headed up by our secretary, with support from the treasurer on financial issues. Other officers will help out with the actual details of the workshop as needed.
E. Expected Outcome
The main outcome of the workshop will be for the student participants to have developed a better understanding of career planning and the other practical aspects covered in the session. Hopefully their career skills will be improved and they will see the value of IEEE-sponsored events as well.

Brief summary of your venture:
The workshop was split it into two halves. The first half focused on career and life goal setting using a projected presentation and audience interaction with a computer or with the presenter. The importance of developing and implementing a plan was stressed; students interacted with computers to create goals and at several other points.
The second half focused on business etiquette, resumes, interviews, interaction with a technical society such as IEEE, and jobs. This was mostly done by projected presentation and audience interaction with the presenter. The session was concluded with questions and answers.
Evaluation of Results:
The workshop completed its goals, as seen in the summary and had a great turn-out. The event was deemed a success by the presenter, academic advisor, and all student members. A total audience of 73 persons attended. Several students were questioned afterwards, and responded that they would suggest this workshop to friends; they also provided constructive criticism which was relayed to the presenter.
Future Event Planning:
Due to the success and practicality of this workshop, our student members feel that more events should be had before the end of the school year to promote career and business goals, and how IEEE is an integral supporter of such. The workshop speaker also promotes this idea. Two events are being considered: a presentation on entrepreneurship by an entrepreneur, and a resume/interview workshop by a company.
