William D. Timmons, Ph.D., Senior Project Engineer, BIOMEC Systems, Inc., Columbus OH, has over 18 years of experience in Biomedical Engineering, starting as a Biomedical Instrumentation Designer for The NY State Institute for Basic Research, Staten Island. Later as a Research Assistant at Case Western Reserve University, OH, Dr. Timmons was involved in the development of 2nd and 3rd generation algorithms for the IVAC Titrator(tm), the first FDA-approved nitroprusside infusor for the automated control of blood pressure. After obtaining his doctorate from CWRU, he served as a Visiting Assistant Professor and later as an Assistant Professor in The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Akron, OH. When the university threatened to eliminate his department in 1997, Dr. Timmons left to form his own company specializing in novel medical devices in nuclear imaging and cardiovascular medicine while consulting on algorithmic software development and validation for next generation medical devices. He later joined BIOMEC Systems, Inc., a biomedical engineering technology transfer startup, in June of 2000, where he is developing visionary tools and products related to computer oversight and control in anesthesia and critical care medicine.
