Bob Pucci received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts Education from the State University College of New York at Buffalo. He has been an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) since 1989. Mr. Pucci was first at Lockheed Martin Mission Systems to attain Corporate Certification as a Lean / Six-Sigma Blackbelt. Mr. Pucci began his professional career as a high school industrial arts teacher in Albany, N.Y.. Budget cuts ended this career path abruptly, after a single year at Colonie Central High School. Mr. Pucci next embarked on an 11-year, 3-factory, 2-state experience in aerospace manufacturing with Texas Instruments’ Defense Systems Electronics Group; manufacturers of components & systems such as the Tank Thermal Site (TTS), the Tank mounted / Optically sited / Wired guided (TOW) Missile System, and High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) programs. It was during this time that Mr. Pucci created his “GDT Model Set #1”, a copyrighted teaching aid system for instructors of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5-M); now sold internationally. Today, Mr. Pucci continues his 12-year tenure with Lockheed Martin. His current assignment is supporting the expansion of a relatively small (~$20M) Air Force program. Mr. Pucci also spends about 25% of his time teaching and coaching teams for process improvement (e.g. Kaizen events). He also plans to provide GDT instruction again this year, through a training company in Minnesota. In the fall of 2002, Mr. Pucci had the honor of leading a field team designing and installing (9) airport security upgrades in Texas and Oklahoma under the Lockheed Martin Strategic Airport Security Rollout (SASR) contract for the (then brand new) Transportation Security Administration (TSA). * * * CAREER GROWTH What happens when formal studies are completed and “career” begins? It’s not the same for everyone. It’s not supposed to be comfortable, that’s why they call it “work”! I’m sure that in the past you’ve heard that people should do what they like for a living. This is a good choice. Personal satisfaction, teamwork, and a sense of worth are powerful motivators in American society. It is interesting to note that financial rewards may be independent of these choices. Involvement is key. Unknown opportunities are created when individuals take initiative. Try not to worry and remember that spelling counts!
