Vishnu Pandey received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 2001 and a Master's degree in the spring of 2007. He is planning to go back for a second Master's degree in Mathematics in the fall of 2007. In spring of 2000 Pandey was elected to serve as the chair of the IEEE student branch at WPI. Under his guidance the once inactive student group re-established its presence, gained popularity on campus, and went from less than 40 active members to well over a hundred. For his efforts Pandey was awarded the outstanding senior award from the Electrical Engineering department. Under his leadership the student branch also organized their first Student Professional Awareness Conference in the spring of 2001. Following his graduation from WPI in 2001, Pandey was asked to serve as a support coordinator for the SPAC program in Region 1. He ascended to the role of full coordinator in 2003 and has served in that capacity to this day. He has been instrumental in the organization of over 30 S-PACs, 5 SLTWs, and numerous workshops since then. In addition he has served as the GOLD coordinator for Worcester County since 2001 and the GOLD representative to the PACE committee since 2006. Presently Pandey works as a systems/software engineer at Hewlett-Packard in Marlborough, MA. He recently celebrated his sixth year in the company. He also serves as a teacher, has volunteered over 700 hours on a suicide hotline since 2002, and is in the process of writing a book on how to improve a student's mathematics education. He is an S-PAC speaker and is currently scheduled to speak at his 4th S-PAC in the fall of 2007. * * * PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES AND PROFESSIONAL SOCCER Believe it or not but members of professional societies and professional athletes have something in common. All are driven to excel and are proficient at working together in teams. This presentation provides a humorous and high-level look at how being in a professional society can enhance your skills and make you a more desired individual in industry. All this is done with the help of my favorite sport. * * * CAREER ARCHERY- HITTING YOUR MARK IN YOUR CHOSEN FIELD Traditional advice on how to advance your career as an engineer is very focused on the industry and not the individual. A more modern and upbeat approach is given that stresses personal and professional development as opposed to simply working more hours. A 10 step process designed by a young engineer to help new graduates achieve more will also be introduced. Audience participation is key to the effectiveness of this presentation so be prepared to pay attention!
