How Do I Get Started?
- Approach your school or an individual teachers with ideas
Request Information and Resources
- Contact Sandra Kim at sandra.kim@ieee.org to order the brochures listed below.
- My Science, My Math, My Engineering (middle school brochure)
- Careers in Electrical Electronics and Computer Engineering (high school brochure)
- Engineers Go For It! (magazine recommended for high school students)
How Do I Get Funding for Precollege Activities?
- Get funds from the IEEE-USA PEC Teacher Reward/Grant Program.
If your Section is working/partnering with a precollege teacher to implement a unique program or project, funds may be requested from IEEE-USA’s Precollege Education Committee (PEC) through the Teacher Reward/Grant Program.
- Ask your Section to fund the activity.
Many of these programs and projects are relatively inexpensive and are often funded entirely by a Section.
- Get matching funds from your Region.
Since precollege activities are considered to be a PACE (or professional) activity, additional funding may be available from your IEEE Region through PACE funding. Ask your Section to complete a PACE Project Funding Request Form and submit to the appropriate person(s) listed on the form.

How Do I Get Involved With My Section?
Contact Your Section Precollege Representative
IEEE Regions are determined geographically. The U.S. is within Regions 1-6. Click on the link to find out to which Region you belong.
- Find your IEEE Section Precollege Representative
Sections are geographic units within Regions. Click on your Region's link and find your Section. Then click on your Section's web site to find your Section Precollege Representative, latest Section news and activities, etc.
- If you can not find your Section, please contact your Regional Precollege Education Committee Representative.
- If there is no Section Precollege Representative, work with your Section PACE Chair and/or the Section Chair. If you are a Section PACE Chair, or a Section Chair, you may want to appoint someone as the Section Precollege Representative.
Get Your Section Involved with Precollege Activities/Projects/Programs
Provided below are a few programs in which your Section may be able to participate:
- IEEE Teacher In-Service Program
Work with teachers and participate in "in-service" days to teach how to implement various engineering related lesson plans in classrooms. Each lesson is tied to education standards, and includes teacher summaries, student worksheets, and activities.
Various competitions can be found on our Teacher/Counselor resource page. These organizations may be seeking volunteers as well.
