ETHICS

Personal ethics or the ethics of an organization are defined as the fundamental rules by which an individual or an organization operates. When an individual or a company makes a decision, considerations include facts, assumptions, beliefs, expectations, and alternatives. The final decision reflects the value attached to each of the factors with respect to the desired outcome. The presentation focuses on personal and corporate value systems and the long-term effect that decisions have.

PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY INVOLVEMENT

The graduating engineer is faced with several opportunities at the beginning of his or her professional life. The specific field or geographic location of the first job usually is high on the individual's list. Professional society membership offers several opportunities to guide those decisions. If the graduate has been involved with a professional society, a specific area of interest may have been identified and the graduate may have been exposed to individuals in that specific area. The presentation will emphasize the benefits of maintaining professional society membership through active participation, member networking, and maintaining technical currency.

TIME MANAGEMENT

We all have exactly the same amount of time. This resource, like many natural resources, cannot be recovered or replaced, but as a resource, it can be managed. When we focus on better time use, work becomes easier, and it becomes possible to accomplish more, which ultimately impacts our ability to earn more and maximize enjoyment. The talk presents methods for the improvement of organizational skills and ideas for time management.
