About IEEE-USA Awards and Recognition

IEEE-USA has authorized the presentation of Awards and Recognition for the purpose of recognizing excellence, outstanding service and contributions in furtherance of its objectives. The awards are administered by IEEE-USA's Awards and Recognition Committee and have been approved by the IEEE Awards Board and the IEEE Board of Directors. IEEE-USA Awards are given to recognize professionalism, technical achievement, and literary contributions to public awareness and understanding of the engineering profession in the United States. In addition to IEEE-USA awards, other forms of recognition are also available, including awards from other entities within IEEE and also outside the organization.

IEEE-USA award recipients are announced each year at a special Awards Ceremony held in conjunction with the IEEE-USA Annual Meeting. A list of past awardees is included in the IEEE-USA Awards Manual.

The following listing of IEEE-USA awards includes links to information on each award, its purpose, form, frequency, eligibility, nomination and selection process, and presentation. IEEE-USA's Professionalism Awards

• Robert S. Walleigh Distinguished Contributions to Engineering Professionalism Award — To honor members of the engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the United States.

• Award for Distinguished Public Service — To honor individuals not currently in the practice of engineering for contributions to furthering the professional goals of IEEE in the United States. (These goals may by furthered by such means as promulgating laws or regulations benefiting the profession; influencing industrial environments to foster professionalism; creating curricula or publications designed to enhance professionalism; and other similar activities.)

• George F. McClure Citation of Honor — To honor members who have made exemplary contributions toward achieving the aims of professional activities in the United States.

• K-12 STEM Literacy Committee Educator-Engineer Partnership Award — To recognize collaborative activities between K-12 educators and technical professionals who are IEEE members.

• IEEE-USA Entrepreneur Achievement Award for Leadership in Entrepreneurial Spirit —  To recognize a key individual who has been instrumental in furthering both entrepreneurial growth and spirit in the United States.

• IEEE-USA Jim Watson Student Professional Awareness Achievement Award —  To recognize key individuals for their contributions to Student-Professional Awareness Activities in the United States.

• Regional/Divisional Professional Leadership Award — To recognize members for their outstanding leadership efforts in advancing the professional aims of IEEE within their Regional or Divisional entities.

• Professional Achievement Award — To recognize significant specific contributions, achievements and individual and organizational efforts in the development and implementation of professional activities in the United States.

IEEE-USA's Awards for Technical Achievement

• Harry Diamond Memorial Award — To honor individuals for distinguished technical contributions in the field of electrotechnology while in U.S. Government Service. [List of Past Recipients]  

• Electrotechnology Transfer Award — This award has been discontinued. If you were interested in nominating someone for this award, please nominate the person under the Harry Diamond Award.

• Award for Distinguished Literary Contributions Furthering Public Understanding and the Advancement of the Engineering Profession - To recognize outstanding journalistic or other efforts that contribute to the enhancement and expansion of the public understanding andthe advancement of the engineering profession in the United States.

Award News

Coming Soon: IEEE-USA Announces 2012 Awards Recipients
IEEE-USA will soon announce the recipients of its 2012 awards in recognition of professional, technical and literary contributions to public awareness and understanding of the engineering profession in the United States. The awards will be presented at the IEEE-USA Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon on 3 August 2013.

The award nominations for the 2013 cycle are currently being accepted. The deadline is 31 July 2013.

Previous IEEE-USA Awards Presentations

• The 2011 awards were presented at the IEEE-USA Annual Meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio on 5 March 2012.
