IEEE-USA's Professionalism Awards

Robert S. Walleigh Distinguished Contributions to Engineering Professionalism Award

Description of Award To honor members of the engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the United States

Award for Distinguished Public Service

Description of Award To honor individuals not currently in the practice of engineering for contributions to furthering the professional goals of IEEE in the United States. (These goals may by furthered by such means as promulgating laws or regulations benefiting the profession; influencing industrial environments to foster professionalism; creating curricula or publications designed to enhance professionalism; and other similar activities.)

2014 Recipient:  The Honorable Barbara Mikulski (Region 2)
Citation:  For leadership, support, and advocacy of scientific innovation and STEM education in the USA

George F. McClure Citation of Honor

Description of Award To honor members who have made exemplary contributions toward achieving the aims of professional activities in the United States

2014 Recipient:  Dan Christenson (Region 6)
Citation
: In recognition of his continued leadership through sustained contributions as an IEEE-USA mentor and volunteer

2014 Recipient:  Winslow Sargeant (Region 2)
Citation
: For his dedicated representation of small business, especially technology start-ups, and his efforts regarding intellectual property rights and their effects on small business and entrepreneurs.

K-12 STEM Literacy Educator-Engineer Partnership Award

Description of Award - To recognize collaborative activities between K-12 educators and technical professionals who are IEEE members. 

2014 Recipients:  Mohamad Musavi and Cary James (Region 1)
Citation: In recognition of their outstanding leadership and dedication to the design and direction of the Bangor High STEM Academy

Jim Watson Student Professional Awareness Achievement Award

Description of Award To recognize key individuals for their contributions to Student Professional Awareness Achievement Activities in the United States.

2014 Recipient:  Julie Gaevert (Region 6)
Citation: For advancing professional awareness among IEEE student members and for leadership in the IEEE-USA Student Professional Awareness Committee

Entrepreneur Achievement Award for Leadership in Entrepreneurial Spirit

Description of Award - To recognize a key individual who has been instrumental in furthering both entrepreneurial growth and spirit in the United States.

2014 Recipient:  Milton Chang (Region 6)
Citation: In recognition of excellence in entrepreneurship and his contributions as a mentor and prolific founder of U.S.-based businesses

Regional Professional Leadership Award

Description of Award - To recognize those members in the Regions for their outstanding leadership efforts in advancing the professional aims of IEEE in the United States within their Regional entities

2014 Recipient:  Theresa Brunasso (Region 3)
Citation: For planning and providing unique activities and speakers to strengthen the professional development of IEEE members

2014 Recipient:  Bill Chiu (Region 6)
Citation: In recognition for outstanding leadership in support of IEEE functions and advancing power and energy initiatives, most notably in the transformers community

2014 Recipient:  Jeffrey Friedhoffer (Region 2)
Citation: For his work in advancing the IEEE-USA goals of advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) awareness to K-12 students, most notably in the area of robotics

2014 Recipient:  Nasser Kehtarnavaz (Region 5)
Citation: In recognition of his dedicated efforts in advancing engineering education, especially in the field of signal processing, and promoting events of great benefit to IEEE’s US members

2014 Recipient:  Steven Kerchberger (Region 4)
Citation: In recognition of his leadership, efforts, and organization which resulted in very focused and effective programs and activities in Region 4

2014 Recipient:  Donald Sherwood (Region 1)
Citation: For his efforts in promoting K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities and creation of grant and award programs honoring schools, organizations, and educators in Region 1

2014 Recipient:  Dr. Donghui Wu (Region 3)
Citation: For identifying and leading activities promoting IEEE and the engineering profession, and inspiring active involvement of members and supporters

Divisional Professional Leadership Award

Description of Award - To recognize those members in the Regions for their outstanding leadership efforts in advancing the professional aims of IEEE in the United States within their Regional entities

Citation: In recognition of his significant mentoring, leadership, and personal dedication in furthering the profession

2014 Recipient:  George C. Giakos (Region 1)
Citation: In recognition of his efforts in strengthening links between industry, government, and academia

2014 Recipient:  Brian J. Kennedy (Region 1)
Citation: In recognition of his contributions in wireless communication to enhance public safety and promoting engineering skills among inner city school students

2014 Recipient:  Dr. Hakduran Koc (Region 5)
Citation: For his long term and significant professional contributions to the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Houston - Clear Lake and the IEEE Galveston Bay Section

2014 Recipient:  Sampathkumar Veeraraghavan (Region 1)
Citation: For his leadership, sustained excellence, and significant contributions towards IEEE-USA technology-based humanitarian efforts

2014 Recipient:  Tim Weil (Region 5)
Citation: In recognition of his support and volunteer efforts, most notably in the organization of GLOBECOM and GREENTECH

2014 Recipient:  Sherali Zeadally (Region 3)
Citation: For sustained, outstanding professional activities to promote education and research in the field of computer networking and information security

Citation: For support of the Entrepreneurial community and contributions to the professional growth of individuals and organizations

Harry Diamond Award

Description of Award - To honor individuals for distinguished technical contributions in the field of electrotechnology while in U.S. Government Service.

2014 Recipient:  Stephen C. Butler (Region 1)
Citation:  For outstanding contributions and exceptional technical leadership in the field of transducer design

 

IEEE-USA's Literary Awards

Award for Distinguished Literary Contributions Furthering Public Understanding and the Advancement of the Engineering Profession

Description of Award - To recognize outstanding journalistic or other efforts that contribute to the enhancement and expansion of the public understanding and the advancement of the engineering profession in the United States.

2014 Recipient:  Allison Marsh (Region 3) and Lizzie Wade
Citation: For outstanding journalistic effort in returning prominence to the historical significance of the Smithsonian Institute‘s engineering collection
