IEEE-USA's Professionalism Awards

Robert S. Walleigh Distinguished Contributions to Engineering Professionalism Award

Description of Award To honor members of the engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the United States

2013 Recipient:  Lennart E. Long (Region 1)
Citation
:  For engaging government and industry leaders and IEEE members to respond to national security issues, and long-term advocacy for IEEE's affinity groups

Award for Distinguished Public Service

Description of Award To honor individuals not currently in the practice of engineering for contributions to furthering the professional goals of IEEE in the United States. (These goals may by furthered by such means as promulgating laws or regulations benefiting the profession; influencing industrial environments to foster professionalism; creating curricula or publications designed to enhance professionalism; and other similar activities.)

2013 Recipient:  The Honorable John D. "Jay" Rockefeller (Region 2)
Citation:  For championing science and technology related legislation and education during his tenure in the U.S. Senate

George F. McClure Citation of Honor

Description of Award To honor members who have made exemplary contributions toward achieving the aims of professional activities in the United States

2013 Recipient:  Ronil Hira (Region 1)
Citation
:  For educating the public on outsourcing legislation and its effects on the engineering profession

K-12 STEM Literacy Committee Educator-Engineer Partnership Award

Description of Award - To recognize collaborative activities between K-12 educators and technical professionals who are IEEE members. 

2013 Recipient:  John Zulaski and Mary Smith (Region 4)
Citation:  For creating a STEM teaching program at public libraries in nine states utilizing STEM kits

Jim Watson Student Professional Awareness Achievement Award

Description of Award To recognize key individuals for their contributions to Student Professional Awareness Achievement Activities in the United States.

2013 Recipient:  John Paserba (Region 2)
Citation:  For advancing student professional awareness activities, and for leadership in IEEE-USA's Student Professional Awareness Committee and the IEEE Student Activities Committee

Entrepreneur Achievement Award for Leadership in Entrepreneurial Spirit

Description of Award - To recognize a key individual who has been instrumental in furthering both entrepreneurial growth and spirit in the United States.

2013 Recipient:  Richard Zulch (Region 6)
Citation:  For fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship through a lifetime of innovation, philanthropy and volunteerism

2013 Recipient:  Susan Donohue (Region 3)
Citation:  For championing pre-university STEM education in Region 1

Citation:  For inspiring women to study and work in STEM fields, and for leadership in diversity initiatives

Citation:  For founding the IEEE Systems Journal and promoting the systems engineering profession

2013 Recipient:  Meyya Meyyappan (Region 6)
Citation:  For championing nanotechnology awareness and education through the development of trynano.org

2013 Recipient:  Lee Oien, P.E. (Region 6)
Citation:  For leadership in the first volunteer-led IEEE-USA Annual Meeting and the first SUSTECH (Sustainable Technology) Conference


IEEE-USA's Awards for Technical Achievement

Harry Diamond Award

Description of Award - To honor individuals for distinguished technical contributions in the field of electrotechnology while in U.S. Government Service.

2013 Recipient:  David A. Tonn, Ph.D. (Region 1)
Citation:  For contributions to the advancement of submarine antenna technology

 

IEEE-USA's Literary Awards

Award for Distinguished Literary Contributions Furthering Public Understanding and the Advancement of the Engineering Profession

Description of Award - To recognize outstanding journalistic or other efforts that contribute to the enhancement and expansion of the public understanding and the advancement of the engineering profession in the United States.

2013 Recipient:  Judith Love Cohen (Region 6)
Citation:  For a lifetime dedication to journalistic STEM education for young women
