THE IEEE CONSTITUTION STATES THAT THE INSTITUTE’S PURPOSES ARE SCIENTIFIC, EDUCATIONAL, AND PROFESSIONAL.

The Constitution defines professional as “directed toward the advancement of the standing of the members of the professions it serves; means to this end include, but are not limited to, the conduct and publication of surveys and reports on matters of professional concerns to the members of such professions, collaboration with public bodies and with other societies for the benefit of the engineering professionals as a whole, and the establishment of standards of qualification and ethical conduct.” Also, it states that “the IEEE staff shall strive to enhance the quality of life for all people throughout the world through the constructive application of technology in its field of competence. It shall endeavor to promote understanding of the influence of such technology on the public welfare.”

Keeping in mind the definition of professional activities in the IEEE Constitution, please provide the following information. The Committee will endeavor to confirm the validity of the information it receives, but it cannot supply or elaborate on statements.

IEEE-USA Robert S. Walleigh Award For Distinguished Contributions to Engineering Professionalism.  To honor members of the engineering profession for long-term dedicated effort and outstanding accomplishments in advancing the aims of IEEE professional activities in the United States. Specially engraved plaque; one annually
IEEE-USA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Public Service.
 
To honor individuals not currently in the practice of engineering for contributions to furthering the professional goals of IEEE in the United States. (These goals may be furthered by such means as promulgating laws or regulations benefiting the profession, influencing industrial environments to foster professionalism; creating curricula or publications designed to enhance professionalism; and other similar activities.) Specially engraved plaque; one annually
IEEE-USA Citation of Honor To honor members who have made exemplary contributions toward achieving the aims of professional activities in the United States. Specially engraved; maximum of four annually
IEEE-USA Regional or Divisional Professional Leadership Award To recognize members for their outstanding leadership efforts in advancing the professional aims of IEEE in the United States within their Regional or Divisional/Society entities. Engraved plaque; maximum of ten annually
IEEE-USA Professional Achievement Award To recognize significant specific contributions, achievements and individual efforts in the development and implementation of professional activities in the United States. Engraved plaque; as warranted by suitable specific accomplishments
