Re:  Retirement Security and Savings Act (H.R. 1102)

Dear Senator Lott:

I am writing on behalf of more than 230,000 U.S. members of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers to urge you pass and the President to sign H.R. 1102 as reported by the Finance Committee before Congress adjourns later this month.

With the U.S. savings rate at an all time low, enactment of legislation that will enable more Americans to save for retirement by contributing to Individual Retirement Accounts and employer-sponsored pensions is urgently needed, not only to guarantee a secure retirement for individuals, but also to provide additional investment capital needed to sustain national economic growth.

Similar legislation has already been passed by the House, once as a free standing bill (by a vote of 401 to 25) and again as part of the Debt Relief and Retirement Security Reconciliation Act (by a vote of 401 to 20).

Don’t squander what may be an unprecedented opportunity for the Congress to enhance the future financial security of individuals from all walks of life and help to sustain America’s unprecedented economic expansion.

Very sincerely,

Merrill W. Buckley, Jr.
President, IEEE-USA
