The Honorable Gary L. Ackerman
Dear Representative Ackerman: As you probably know, Congressman Cal Dooley is circulating a letter addressed to House Democrats urging their support for inclusion of House passed Association Health Plan (AHP) provisions in the final House/Senate Conference Committee report on H.R. 2990, the Quality Care for the Uninsured Act. On behalf of the more than 228,000 U.S. members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), I am writing to urge you to sign on to Mr. Dooleys letter to the House Conferees (if you havent already done so.) The Association Health Plan provisions are urgently needed to provide greater access and choice in health plan options for employees of small businesses and the self-employed. With 44 million uninsured Americans, fully 60% of whom are members of families supported by small business owners or employees, Congress must act to address the serious lack of access to affordable health insurance currently plaguing small businesses and self-employed individuals. IEEE-USA believes that enactment of the House-passed AHP reforms in H.R. 2990 is the most effective way to insure that the employees of small businesses and self-employed individuals who belong to professional societies and trade associations will be able to purchase high quality health care for themselves and their families at affordable prices. Your assistance in helping to communicate the importance of including the AHP and other access improvement provisions in the Conference Report on the Quality Care for the Uninsured Act will be very much appreciated. Sincerely, Merrill W. Buckley, Jr. (Same Letter Sent to U.S. Representatives) The Institute of Electrical and Electronics
