January 29, 1999 William J. Clinton Dear President Clinton: I was very disappointed to learn earlier today that the Administration does not plan to make reference to the importance of improving pension portability in the FY 2000 Budget document to be released on Monday. Given your Administrations prior support for needed improvements in pension portability, including its endorsement of the Retirement Account Portability Act in the 105th Congress, the IEEE-USA urges the White House and the Departments of the Treasury and Labor to reaffirm that support in remarks accompanying the release of the budget. IEEE-USAs 234,000 members and the millions of engineers and scientists who are concerned about their retirement security would be very disappointed to discover that the Administration no longer explicitly supports needed improvements in the portability of pension benefits. Very sincerely, Paul J. Kostek
