Fiona Cherbak IEEE in Central Texas Announces Globalization Forum, October Event in Austin To Focus on Technology Policy Issues AUSTIN, TEXAS (03 October 2003) — IEEE-USA and the IEEE Central Texas Section are pleased to announce its upcoming forum, "Globalization & Technology: A Dialogue on Policy Issues." Scheduled for Friday, 17 October in Austin, Texas, the all-day event is expected to foster open discussion among government, academic and corporate leaders in a forum focused on the effect of globalization on public policy and technology. Recognizing that Central Texas is a worldwide center of technology, speakers and audience will discuss how current advances in technology impact the world's economies and cultures, which policies the U.S. should adopt with regards to the globalization of technology, and how these shifts in policy shape the technology sectors of this region as well as the nation. Confirmed keynote speakers include Clifford Lau, Associate Director for the University Program at the U.S. Office of Naval Research (Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense), and President-elect of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council; and national author and syndicated columnist Austin Bay, noted for his foreign affairs commentaries on National Public Radio's Morning Edition, CNN, C-SPAN, and ABC News Nightline. Confirmed panelists include Ralph Wyndrum, AT&T Labs and V.P. of Technology Policy Activities, IEEE-USA; Juan Sanchez, V.P. for Research, The University of Texas at Austin; Jim Carlo, President-Elect of IEEE Standards Association; Brian Bauer, IBM Program Executive for Global Security Strategy and Assurance, IBM Global Services; LeEarl Bryant, 2002 President, IEEE-USA; Larry Leibrock, Associate Dean for Technology & Chief Technology Officer, The University of Texas at Austin; and Mayor Pro Tem Jackie Goodman, Austin City Council.
