IEEE-USA President, in "New England High-Tech
Journal," Says Permanent Immigration Better for
U.S. Work Force than Expanding H-1B Program
WASHINGTON (5 June 2006) — The permanent
immigration of skilled scientists and engineers
is better for the United States' capacity to
innovate and meet high-tech work force demands
than expanding the temporary H-1B program,
IEEE-USA President Dr. Ralph W. Wyndrum Jr.
wrote in an op-ed published today in "Mass High
Tech: The Journal of New England Technology."
"Immigration-based admissions level the playing
field for all workers, and ensure that America
benefits from recruiting the world's best and
brightest as future Americans, rather than
training future competitors," Wyndrum wrote in
the column titled, "H-1B program is Not Answer
to Work Force Shortage."

The IEEE-USA president also writes about David
Huber, a Chicago-area IEEE member who was hurt
by the H-1B program.
"Huber's experience is not unique," Wyndrum
noted. "Thousands of U.S. citizens have been
replaced by H-1B holders, often at lower wages."
