Purpose
The purpose of the
IEEE-USA Precollege Education Committee (PEC) is to have an impact on
improving math, science, and technology education for all precollege
students and to help raise their functional and technological literacy.
The Committee's work is to have an influence at the national, state, and
local levels. One PEC goal is to increase the participation of IEEE-USA
members in K-12 education and related activities at the local level.
To recognize the most
outstanding of these activities, we are pleased to announce a
competition to select three preeminent projects from Regions 1-6. Each
section's activity will be judged on the following criteria, which are
listed in order of importance:
- Transferability
— the ease with which other sections could replicate the
activity;
- Innovation
— consideration of the activity's objectives, action plan,
evaluation plan, and creativity;
- Effectiveness
— how well the stated objectives are met, and how the
activity improves mathematics, science, and technology education of
precollege students.
Other factors that may
be considered are the activity's scope (i.e., time frame and target
audience), cost effectiveness, and impact (how the activity will meet
PEC goals).
To enter the
competition, complete the attached project description and submit it to
the Precollege Education Committee, c/o Sandra Kim at the IEEE-USA
Office. If you prefer, you may access the form on
the web, download it, and submit
it by e-mail as an MSWord attachment.
The deadline
for receipt of project descriptions is 9 August. The projects
selected will be announced by 6 September. The IEEE-USA Precollege
Education Committee will award the IEEE member associated with each of
the selected projects. To enter, mail, fax, or e-mail your project
description to:
