Overview

This in an introductory presentation providing an overview of the contents of a nonprovisional utility patent application and drafting a patent application. This presentation does not cover specific requirements for filing or procedures for responding to Office actions.

About the Presenter

Darnell Jayne supervises a team of experienced primary examiners who specialize in working with independent inventors prosecuting patent applications on their own in chemical, electrical and mechanical technologies. Darnell works closely with the Office of Innovation Development at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has assisted in technology transfer, independent inventor, and small business outreach initiatives. In her 26 years at the USPTO, she has served in the capacities of primary examiner, legal advisor, quality assurance specialist and supervisory patent examiner. Because of her range of experience and knowledge, Darnell is often called upon to lecture on many aspects of the patent examination process. As an examiner and supervisor, her technology area of expertise lies mainly in mechanical devices.

Darnell received a bachelorís degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida in 1990 and her juris doctorate from George Mason University School of Law in 1997. She is a member of the Colorado Bar.
