View a recording of this webinar
Recorded: 12 Nov. 2009

Overview

Are human resources professionals doing more than just examining your resume before they invite you in for an interview? Of course, they are! With the unemployment rate rising for U.S. electrical and electronics engineers, human resources professionals are doing more research on applicants to help them weed out people amidst the rising number of resumes they're receiving. Elizabeth Lions solves the mystery of how employers are getting inside information on you in her IEEE-USA webinar, "Snooping Employers: How Employers Get Background Information on You Prior to the Interview."

Elizabeth will discuss:

  • How to control your market perception through LinkedIn and other social networks
  • How to set yourself apart from the competitive job market
  • How continue the interview process all the way to job offer
  • How to manage your references

About the Speaker

Elizabeth Lions is the author of Recession Proof Yourself! — a no nonsense approach to finding a job during a recession. Elizabeth is a career coach, professional speaker and author. For many years, Elizabeth was a headhunter. During her career, she's spoken with thousands of hiring managers, and she's been privy to inside corporate hiring decisions. Elizabeth knows why you are fired, hired and promoted, and she discloses that information in her book, Recession Proof Yourself!

Elizabeth has had the pleasure of working with the leaders of Intel, Welch Allyn Protocol, Mentor Graphics, InFocus and FLIR, to name a few. In contrast to traditional headhunters, Elizabeth utilizes her background in psychology to understand her clients, and works with them to target a job position uniquely compatible with the client's personality and talents. She has been a keynote speaker at OGI/OHSU for the NW Pacific Career Fair. She is also an elected Board Member to the Engineering Department of Portland Community College.

Since 2006, she has worked with IEEE-USA's Employment & Career Services Committee, and published nine articles in Today's Engineer, all of them with a focus on teaching engineering professionals how to market themselves. When Elizabeth is not writing or speaking, she can be found with her husband on their custom motorcycle. For more about her book. Recession Proof Yourself!, visit www.elizabethlions.com.
