IEEE-USA's Globalization Toolkit

The IEEE-USA Online Global Toolkit has been established to support IEEE's U.S. members working in a global economy.  The toolkit provides the most up-to-date Global Business and High Tech news though RSS feeds as well as links to useful resources for doing business in a global economy.  Learn about the customs of other countries.  Know when to wear a suit or just short sleeve polo shirts.  Know whether to bow, kiss, shake hands or simply nod to your business colleague when you meet them for the first time.  Find out about traditions, customs, foreign currency and much more before traveling or working with people outside of the U.S.  The toolkit also provides an online community to seek advice and interact with your colleagues. The site will continue to be a work in progress so if you need additional resources that are not currently on the website please let us know.

How Easy Is Doing Business Abroad?

It will depend on the country. Economies are ranked on their ease of doing business, from 1 – 178, with first place being the best. A high ranking on the ease of doing business index means the regulatory environment is conducive to the operation of business. This index averages the country's percentile rankings on 10 topics, made up of a variety of indicators, giving equal weight to each topic. The rankings are from the Doing Business 2008 report, covering the period April 2006 to June 2007.

Travel & Business Abroad

Travel Warnings are issued to describe long-term, protracted conditions that make a country dangerous or unstable. A Travel Warning is also issued when the U.S. Government's ability to assist American citizens is constrained due to the closure of an embassy or consulate or because of a drawdown of its staff.  If you need assistance with travel documents, registering  with U.S. Embassies, travel tips, currency exchange rates, commercial and business affairs, trade policy programs, or country commercial guides feel free to visit the online State Department.
