Overview:
Future City Competition
IEEE-USA members ensuring the next
generation of engineers
Almost twenty years ago, IEEE-USA
created the Future City Competition as a
legacy program for National Engineers
Week 1992. Since that time it has grown
into one of the largest not-for-profit
engineering education programs in the
country. And, no wonder as we struggle
to meet the challenges of globalization,
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematic) education has become a
top priority.
The National Engineers Week Future City
Competition is a fun and exciting
educational engineering program for
seventh- and eighth-grade students that
combine a stimulating engineering
challenge with a "hands-on" application
to present their vision of a city of the
future.
The Future City Competition requires:
Problem-solving
Team work
Research and presentation skills
Practical math and science
applications
Computer skills
The competition employs a team-based
approach. All members of the team have
an important role that is necessary for
the completion of the project.
This webinar will discuss the many ways
that IEEE Sections, Chapters, and
individual members can get involved in
Future City to ensure the technological
literacy of the next generation,
including:
Testing the waters sponsor an award,
sponsor a school, volunteer to judge
Mentoring how to work with teachers
and students
Taking off organizing your own
regional event
Its not too late the 2009-2010 season
is just starting!
