Russ Lefevre will be presenting on Countering Offshoring

This program will be repeated three times so that all participants will have the opportunity to receive a legislative briefing and will include a Q&A session on U.S. Competitiveness, Offshoring & Technology Policy. 

Program B:  Find Me A Job And While You Are At It What About My Career!

This program will be repeated three times so that all participants will have the opportunity to learn how you can provide your local members with the resources, tools and strategies for finding a job and maintaining their careers.

Program C:  IEEE-USA Communications and Successful Local Media Coverage -
Local Member (TBD) & Chris McManes, IEEE-USA, Senior Marketing Communications & PR Coordinator  (Repeated:  10:05 - 11:00 am, 11:05 am - Noon, & 1:15 - 2:10 pm)

This program will be repeated three times so that all participants will have the opportunity to learn about the variety of IEEE-USA communications vehicles.  Through these vehicles the participant will be better prepared to inform their local members of the vast array of employment, career and public policy activities that are taking place on behalf of IEEE's U.S. members.  The second part of this program will be devoted to highlighting best practices for local IEEE unit media interaction.

TRACK A:  EMPLOYMENT & CAREER STRATEGIES

Workshop A1: 
Finding Success And Fulfillment In Your Career: Career Development Challenges for the 21st Century-- Peggy Hutcheson, CEO, The Odyssey Group, Inc & IEEE-USA ECS Committee Member, Analyze some of your most important skills and values while examining the “payoffs from work.” You will identify your Career Orientation and differentiate between success and fulfillment.  (2:15-3:45 pm)

Workshop A2: 
Beyond Job Satisfaction-- Nigel Bristow, CEO, Targeted Learning & IEEE-USA ECS Committee Member, Hear from Nigel Bristow, the author of the newly released IEEE-USA publication, Beyond Job Satisfaction: A Fieldbook.  Learn about tools, templates for maximizing your engagement and vitality at work. (4:00 – 5:30 pm)

TRACK B:  GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

Workshop B1: 
Engineer Smith Comes to Washington--Steve Watkins, IEEE-USA Government Fellow & Erica Wissolik, IEEE-USA Program Manager—Government Activities

Engineers can make a difference by personally engaging in the public policy process.  This session will highlight IEEE-USA programs that help to engage IEEE members in the political process.  Learn about IEEE-USA Fellowships, the WISE Internships, Congressional Visits Day (CVD) and the Careers Fly-In.  Learn how to invigorate your local members to participate in such IEEE-USA Programs. (2:15 - 3:45 pm)

Workshop B2:
Getting to Know Your Congressperson -- Russ Harrison, IEEE-USA Legislative Representative

An interactive tutorial on writing effective advocacy letters to Congress and holding an effective meeting with your elected representatives.  Participants will practice acquired skills in role-playing exercises.  Session will include an overview of related IEEE-USA government relations programs.  Training and materials will enable interested participants to give similar training as a local PACE activity. (4:00 – 5:30 pm)

TRACK C:  LOCAL PROGRAMS (LOCAL CONSULTANTS' NETWORK, MPAC AND SPAC)

Workshop C1:  The Nuts & Bolts of Starting Your Own Local Consultants Network & Setting Your Consulting Fees --Gary Blank, IEEE-USA Past Chair,
Alliance of IEEE Consultants Networks (AICN)& Bruce Johnson, IEEE-USA Vice Chair, Alliance of IEEE Consultants Networks (AICN)  (2:15 - 3:45 pm)

Learn how to establish your own local consultants' network.  Join the 34 other networks throughout the U.S. while assisting your members who are consultants or who would like to be consultants.  Hear about the Consultants very successful on line directory, the recent Consultants' Fee Survey and what it means for you and your local members. (4:00 – 5:30 pm)

Workshop C2: 
Low Cost/No Cost Engineering in the Classroom: Precollege Education Outreach--

Larry Nelson, Region 1 Representative, Precollege Education Committee

Learn about projects that your local members can participate in with local schools in an effort to raise interest in technology.  Some of the activities include establishing a Future Engineer and Inventors Club Lego Robotics, First Robotics, Science Olympiad, Presentations and Demonstrations of electrical phenomena including Tesla coils, Van De Graaf generators as well as other hands on activities.  (4:00 – 5:30 pm)

TRACK D:  LEADERSHIP SKILLS & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Workshop D1:  Be A Leader: Reach Out to Your Members and Conduct  SPACs & MPACs in Your Local Section, Chapter or Region--

Learn how to conduct a Member Professional Awareness Conference (MPAC) and Student Professional Awareness Conference (SPAC), apply for grants, locate speakers and topics.  You will leave this workshop prepared to run your own MPAC in your local section/chapter.

Workshop D2: Enhancing Your Local Section/Chapter
(4:00 – 5:30 pm)

Project management for Your Local Section or Chapter -- Lee Stogner, Chair, IEEE-USA Government Affairs Committee.

Learn the basics of project management and how you can use these skills to conduct meetings, programs, activities and projects in your region, section, chapter or society.

Things You Need to Know About Licensure & Registration for Your Local Section/Chapter -- John Steadman, Past IEEE-USA President

Hear about important licensure & registration issues while getting trained how to run a program in your local section/chapter on Licensure & Registration.  The IEEE-USA Licensure & Registration Committee has prepared PowerPoint slides that you can present at your local meetings.
